Unlocked usually refers to a phone that uses SIM cards and could take a SIM card from any provider, A locked phone is a phone that can use SIM only from one provider,
US Cellular is utilizing CDMA technology. I would recomend you getting a phone that was made for US Cellular. Try www.ebay.com. You can find phones that are sold without contract.

A unlocked phone means that it can be used with any other company, for example i have a tmobile sidekick but i unlocked it to use with my AT&T sim card, and U.S Cellular as well as sprint and verzion dont use Sim cards, and U.S Celluar is CDMA vs GSM, which is a totally different cell phone system, if u want a good U.S Cellular phone, i say check their website or go to ur local retail store and ask if u can upadate ur contract, if not, u can get a easy phone to last for cheap until ur contract can be renewed, hope i helped….:]
